Nancy Ellen Tankersley Short, known affectionately as Nancy, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, in Lanett, Alabama. Born on May 26, 1944, in Windham, Ohio, Nancy lived a life full of love, kindness, and friendship, touching the lives of many with her warm spirit.
Nancy was a devoted mother to her three children, Mary Short Henley, Rhonda Short Villegas (Jorge), and Michael David Short (Joyce). She was a beloved grandmother to Terry Cody Harmon, Destiny Stewart (Nieko), Brittney Pitts, Chasity Rowe (Trent), Kyndra Perry (Mitchell), Brandi Denton, Brianna Short, Michael Denton, McKay Villegas, Morgan Henley, Makai Henley, and Miles Henley. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and happiness. Nancy is survived by her siblings, Betty Chambley, Larry Tankersley (Susan), and Linda Humber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William David Short; parents, Mertie Bell Tankersley and William Joseph Tankersley; sister, Alice Tankersley; brothers, George, Lester, and Billy Tankersley; and her best friend, Betty Easterwood.
Nancy's life was centered around her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her world. She was a beacon of love and kindness, always putting others before herself. Her friendly nature and warm heart made her a cherished figure in her community. She was known for her love of the color yellow, a hue that perfectly reflected her sunny and cheerful disposition.
Nancy had a special bond with her dog, Jack, who was a constant source of companionship and comfort to her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as sipping coffee while visiting with friends. Nancy also enjoyed her trips to Walmart, where she loved to browse and shop at her leisure.
In remembering Nancy, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, kindness, and friendship. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and guide us. May her soul rest in peace.
