Patricia "Patsy" Elaine O'Neal McCain died January 26, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born March 31, 1945, in West Point Georgia to parents, Reuben O'Neal and Mary Edith "Peachy" Mitchell O'Neal. She graduated from Lanett High School in 1963 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Jacksonville State University in 1967.
Patsy married John David McCain on June 30, 1967. David was the love of Patsy's life. She told people what a wonderful person he was and what good care he took of her, particularly in the last few years. Patsy and David had two daughters, Lisa and Traci, and three granddaughters, Haley, Kayla, and Audrey.
Patsy had three main loves in her life, her family, her church and teaching. She was devoted to David and loved spending time with her daughters and granddaughters, to whom she was affectionately known as "Gram". Patsy instilled in them values of keeping family close, working hard at everything you do, and loving the Lord. She was at her happiest when her family was surrounding her.
Patsy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, which she started attending as a very young child and was still attending at the time of her death. She taught Sunday School for many years and was the church clerk for a long time. Her church was a source of strength for her, and she loved all the friends that she had there. As years passed and she became one of the older members, she often took people under her wing and taught them the same love that she had poured into the church through the years.
Patsy taught school for 36 years, having spent 34 of those years at Huguley Elementary School. Teaching was truly a gift given to her from God, and she absolutely loved her students and loved passing on knowledge and love to them. Even after she retired, she would often run into former students who would call out "Mrs. McCain" to her and run and give her a hug.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben O'Neal and Peachy Foster. She is survived by her loving husband, David; her daughters, Lisa McCain Hicks (Danny) and Traci McCain Bridges (Tim); her granddaughters, Haley Hicks, Kayla Hicks and Audrey Bridges; and sisters, Rebecca O'Neal Graham and Linda O'Neal Moncrief.
