Paul Bernard Hayes

     Our son, brother, father, Paul Bernard Hayes left us Wednesday, April 3rd, to go into life’s next stage. He leaves behind his mother, Virginia Hayes; his two brothers, John and Matt Hayes; and a sister, Jennifer Irvin. He had three children, Jacob (Rebecca) Crawley and Justin Crawley and a daughter, Amber Hayes; and two grandchildren, Laile and Neveah. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hayes and the mother of his children, Kim Crawley.

     Paul was a natural fisherman, catching fish from an early age. He loved things of nature, family camping, church camp, and enjoyed earning his Eagle Scout award. He had a passion for digging up old relics and had an awesome collection of fine old bottles, many made in the South. He loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and always watched their games.

     His family of birth came from the mountains of West Virginia, and he felt a kinship with the beauty of the mountains and the music of Appalachia. Old home places intrigued him. He will be missed by all of us in different ways. For his mother, there will be no more little morning Facebook greetings of flowers, cartoons, and texts of “how are you, Mama?” He was a mixed blessing, a child of this earth and made no apology for living life his way. He was rightfully said to be “one of a kind”.

     Funeral services for Paul will be held on Monday, April 8th, 2024, at 2:30 PM (EDT) the graveside in Langdale Cemetery. His family will receive friends in the cemetery from 2:00 PM (EDT) until the service hour. The Reverend Paul Messer will officiate.
