We gather today to remember and celebrate the life of Peggy Ann Tillery, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who brightened the world with her presence from the moment she was born on October 17, 1946, in Ward, Arkansas, right until her peaceful passing in Allendale, Michigan on August 25, 2024.
Peggy, as she was affectionately known by all, was the epitome of kindness, friendliness, and love. Her smile had the power to illuminate the dullest of days, and her warmth drew people to her, making her a favorite among her colleagues and customers alike at the local grocery store where she worked part-time after her retirement.
Proudly rooted in her Baptist faith, Peggy exuded a spirit that was both nurturing and joyous. She thrived when surrounded by her loving children, Mary Walker and her husband Pete, and Billy Joe Tillery, Jr. Her grandchildren—Kenneth, Carla, Tiffany, Lora, Eric, Angela, Cassie, Nate, and Alex—were the apples of her eye, just as her twelve great-grandchildren were the twinkle in her gaze. Peggy is lovingly remembered by her brother, Frankie Valentine, who stands as a testament to their cherished family bond. The echoes of laughter from the numerous family gatherings she hosted, especially during Christmas and Thanksgiving, will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were blessed to be a part of them. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Billy Joe Tillery, Sr.
Her creative spirit found joy in the simple pleasures of life—be it in the delicate stitches of her sewing, the elegant intricacies of her crochet work, or the sweet flavors of her lovingly baked cakes. The squirrels that frolicked around her home had a special place in her heart, as she would often share the biscuits she made just for them.
As we bid farewell to Peggy, we remember her as a beacon of light who lived life with enthusiasm and left a legacy of love. Her graciousness and infectious cheer will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Though she is preceded in departure by her parents, Edith and Hubert Valentine, and many brothers and sisters, her spirit continues to guide us like a gentle whisper in the wind. Rest in peace, dear Peggy; your memory will forever be treasured.
