Phyllis Ann Shurden

     Phyllis Ann Shurden, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 6th, 2024. Phyllis was born on June 4th, 1943, in West Point, Georgia to Sidney and Mary Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard; her parents; and brothers, Wallace and Norman Smith. She is survived by her sisters Mary Ellen Langley and Sharon Lacombe (James Vondal); and her son, Tyrone Shurden, and she also raised her brother’s children, T.J. Smith (Michelle) and Angel Smith.

     Her greatest joy was being “Granny” and spending time with her grandchildren, Hunter Shurden (Lindsey) and Harli Shurden, Maverick, Ellie, Cruz, Annaka, Harper, and Sawyer Smith, Ashton Smith and Kendall Daniel.

     Phyllis was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and retired from West Point Stevens, but her true passion was selling Avon. Phyllis loved having her whole family visit so she could cook for them while they entertained her. When the kids grew up, she spent her time eating and being entertained at San Marcos.

     Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, at 2:30 PM (EDT) at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dr. Darren White and the Reverends Raymond Sorrells and Ron Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:30 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the church.
