Robert Allan "Boss" Pedigo, a revered educator, devoted family man, and passionate golfer, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, at the age of 93 in Valley, Alabama.
Born on June 4, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert's journey was one marked by academic excellence, a love for the natural world, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Robert's intellectual pursuits led him to acquire a PhD from Emory University, a testament to his dedication and love for learning. His academic career was distinguished by his tenure as a Biology professor at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he inspired countless students with his knowledge and passion for the sciences. He was also a Department Head at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina, where he laid the foundations for his future achievements. Beyond the classroom, Robert served as the Director of Education and Vice President of the Ida Cason Foundation with Callaway Gardens. His leadership and vision were instrumental in advancing the foundation's mission, leaving a lasting impact on the educational landscape.
Robert's life was enriched by his beloved wife, Sundra "Sunny" Godwin Pedigo, son, Allan Downing Pedigo (Cheryl), daughter, Debra Armstrong (Mark), daughter in law, Charlotte Harris. His role as a grandfather to Andrew Downing Pedigo, Hailey Morgan Pedigo, Lucy Harris, and Justin Harker was one he cherished deeply. The joy and wisdom he imparted to his grandchildren will continue to resonate through generations. He was preceded in death by his stepson, John F. "Tripps" Harris.
An avid golfer until the age of 91, Robert's adventurous spirit was as evident on the greens as it was in his exploration of life's many avenues. His intelligence and wisdom were not only cornerstones of his professional life but were also the pillars of his personal relationships. Those who knew Robert were consistently struck by his capacity for curiosity and his drive to embrace every day with vigor and enthusiasm. Robert's life was a tapestry woven with the love of his family, the respect of his colleagues, and the admiration of his students. He approached each chapter with an adventurer's heart and a scholar's mind, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
