Robert Bradley Smith

Robert Bradley Smith, a man of unwavering faith and boundless creativity, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, in Tallassee, AL. Born on November 3, 1945, in the small town of Langdale, AL, to his late parents, Tom H. Smith and Virginia Vinson Smith.  He was a resident of Sylvia Word Manor in Valley, Alabama, for the last few years of his life.  

Bradley's life was marked by a dedication to service, the arts, and his community. Bradley's journey through life was as diverse as it was inspiring. He attended Langdale Kindergarten and LaFayette Lanier School before graduating from Valley High School in 1964. While in school, Bradley's love for the arts flourished as he was actively involved in the band, chorus, Spanish Club, and the drama club known as "Expression." His passion for communication and music led him to work part-time as a D.J. at W.B.M.K. in West Point, where he honed his skills and became a cherished voice on the airwaves.

Following high school, Bradley served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. His service took him to New York and Germany, where he worked in Air Operations. During his time in Germany, Bradley continued to pursue his love for theater, acting in many plays with the Ramstein Theatre Group. His commitment to the performing arts was unwavering, even as he served his nation.

After his service, Bradley furthered his education at Southern Union Community College and then Auburn University, where he majored in Theatre Arts. He continued to work in radio, a testament to his enduring passion for both communication and the arts.

In 1975, Bradley reenlisted in the Air Reserves in Marietta, Georgia, bringing his total military service to seven commendable years. Bradley's contributions to the arts extended beyond his military career.

He was a beloved figure in community and college theater, captivating audiences with his performances in local small plays at various churches, Callaway Gardens, and local television. His talent was recognized with the honor of favorite D.J. Medium Market Radio for his exceptional work at W.C.J.M. in West Point, GA.

A man of deep spiritual conviction, Bradley was a member of Langdale Baptist Church and attended various churches in the area. Although much of his worship was personal and private, a significant turning point came in 1980 when he felt a renewed call to formal fellowship.

His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and providing solace during times of trial. Bradley's interests were as eclectic as his talents. He cherished creative writing, expressing his wisdom and thoughtfulness through words.

He found joy in playing the piano and was often found absorbed in the melodies of his favorite compositions. Music was not just a hobby for Bradley; it was a companion and an expression of his soul.

Those who knew Bradley will remember him as the epitome of wisdom, thoughtfulness, and faith. He lived his life with a gentle strength and a quiet confidence that came from his unwavering belief in a higher purpose. His legacy is not merely in the roles he played on stage or the music he shared on the airwaves, but in the character he exhibited every day and the lives he touched with his kindness and compassion.

Robert Bradley Smith leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with the threads of his many passions and the love he shared with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable man.

A few of Bradley's favorite statements include, "God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, you are the last of this life, and you are the continuation of life through eternity for me". "God is only going to do it HIS way"! "Not everything HE does seems wonderful to us, but HE is still God, to me anyway."

A graveside service for Bradley will be held, 11:30 A.M. (EST), Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Langdale Cemetery in Valley, Alabama. Visitation will be held before the service on Tuesday , October 15, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. (EST) at Johnson Brown - Service Funeral Home, 3700 20th Avenue, Valley, Alabama, 36854.
