Robert "Wendell" Jones Obituary

Robert “Wendell” Jones, 82, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the EAMC Lanier Hospital in Valley.

Wendell was born in Ashland, Alabama on November 22, 1938 to the late Robert Price Jones and Bertis Rainwater-Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Robert Wendell Jones, Jr., great granddaughter, Sadie Lauren Jennings, and a brother-in-law, Wallace Donald Mason.

At a young age, Wendell’s family moved to Alexander City and then to LaGrange, Georgia where he was reared.  He was a graduate of LaGrange High School.

He later entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. 

He settled in the Valley and was a lifelong resident of Chambers county.

In 1962, he joined the Skinner Furniture Company in West Point, Georgia and began a lifelong career and profession in the furniture business.  After 20 years of service with the Skinner family, he then opened his own furniture store in 1982 – Jones Furniture that later evolved into Payless Furniture in Huguley.

Mr. Jones was a man of faith and of family.  He loved the Lord, his wife, his family, and his church family at Calvary Family Worship Center. 

He enjoyed gospel music, antiquing, and searching through thrift stores and auctions for antiques and historical treasures.  He and Terri also enjoyed traveling together.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Terri H. Jones; father, Gordon Taylor, Kilmarnock, Scotland; children, Ricky Jones, Randie Jones (LaJune), Michele Yarbrough, Angel Walden (William Clifton), Jeremy Barker, Ricky Holloway; brother, Robert Jones; sister-in-law, Jerri Harper; brother-in-law, Marvin Bishop (Marty); 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 3:00P.M. EDT at the Calvary Family Worship Center in Valley with interment following in Johnson Memorial Gardens.  His family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00P.M. EDT until 7:00P.M. EDT.

Flowers will be kindly accepted, or memorials may be made in his memory to the Cookies Canine Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, 1113 County Road 526, Cusseta, Alabama 36852. Animal rescue and animal fostering were very important to Mr. Jones.
