Rupert Summers Obituary

Rupert Macon Summers passed away, September 17, 2025. A source of joy and friendship, Rupert was born on August 15, 1943, in the serene town of Midland City, Alabama and grew to become a man whose legacy is characterized by unwavering love and kindness. Despite our heavy hearts, we celebrate the remarkable life of a gentleman who touched countless lives in Valley, Alabama where he spent his final moments surrounded by love.

Rupert, affectionately known by all who loved him, carried the light of deep family values and a convivial spirit throughout his life. His beloved wife, Jane Royal Summers, remained his cherished companion and confidante, sharing in all the wonders life brought their way. Their union saw the blossoming of a beautiful family with their children, Allen Summers (Leigh) and Kevin Summers (Danielle), who in turn filled Rupert's life with the laughter of grandchildren, Michael (Kelsey) Summers, Casey Summers, Mark Summers, Lynsay Oleson (Matthew), and Alex Fields (Luis). The echoes of joy multiplied with the addition of great-grandchildren Colton Summers, Hunter Summers, Layla Summers, Foster Oleson, and Summer Oleson, sister, Shirley McLemore, brother, Gary Summers, sisters-in-laws, Linda Edenfield and Beverly (Bobby) Brewer, and brother-in-law, Dan (Brenda) Royal.

In every corner of Rupert's life, whether it be the family home, the rustle of the Auburn football crowd, or across the quiet fields and streams where he hunted and fished, there was a sense of his being an integral part of a community. He was a long-time member of Calvary Family Worship Center where his warmth extended to his friends and neighbors who treasured his presence, especially his special friends, Larry and Tricia McCarthy and John and Sandra Walden. It was this same inherent loving nature that saw him through a successful career as a Plant Engineer with West Point Home and Proposal Manager at ETI where he retired. He imparted his ethically grounded and friendly demeanor to all professional endeavors.

In facing the trials of life, Rupert was not without his share of sorrows, having been preceded in death by his mother, Jean Giles, father, Macon Summers, his adored daughter, Cadace Summers Carlisle, and his sisters, Helen Fuller and Janet Howard. His life was also touched by the departures of his dear brother-in-law, John Fuller, sister-in-law, Yolanda Summers, and brother-in-law Lucian Royal and Woody McLemore. Yet, in remembrance of Rupert, we see a tapestry of resilience as he continued to carry forward with an unwavering love and dedication for his surviving family members.

Rupert's educational background was a testament to his belief in the power of knowledge. Furthermore, his passions were diverse and numerous, showcasing his zest for life and the outdoors, whether it was a serene day spent golfing, the triumphant cheer for his favorite Auburn football team, or the tender moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each interest he harbored became a testament to his multifaceted personality that was as caring as it was spirited.
