Shelby "Sassy" Benefield, aged 86, passed away peacefully at her residence in Valley, Alabama, on February 1, 2025. She entered this world on October 30, 1938, in West Point, Georgia, and throughout her life, she embodied the warmth and vibrancy of her Southern roots.
Shelby was known for her infectious energy and her natural ability to love everyone she met, never encountering a stranger, just friends she hadn't yet made. For over 35 years, she dedicated herself to working at The Fields golf course in LaGrange, Georgia, where she combined her professional life with her love of playing golf.
Faith played a significant part in Shelby's life as a devout member of Lanett Congregational Christian Church. She was renowned for her kindness, friendliness, and thoughtfulness - traits that endeared her to her community and church family.
Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her daughters, Ramona Benefield and Maria Edge, and her granddaughter, Jordan Edge. Shelby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R.T. Benefield.
The passing of Shelby "Sassy" Benefield leaves behind a legacy of joy, a testament to a life well-lived and full of love. Her spirit and the memories she created will forever resonate with those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A visitation for Shelby will be held on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM (EST) at the Lanett Congregational Christian Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
