Timothy Riley Wooley Obituary

Tim Wooley, age 82, passed peacefully at his home in Lanett, Alabama, in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 22, 2026. Tim was born and lived much of his life in Riverview Alabama, or “Riv-view” as he called it, until later moving to Shawmut, Fairfax, West Point, Georgia, and then Lanett, Alabama.

His friends would say, “Tim Wooley was good at everything.” He was good at football at Valley High School as a 120 pound running back. As he used to say, “I was 120 pounds of rompin’ stompin’ Hell!” He was a good mill worker pushing trucks as a teenager in the Bleachery and Dye Works of Fairfax Finishing Mill, where he eventually became the plant manager. He was good at duck hunting, building race cars, water skiing, playing golf, raising children, loving his wife, and most everything else.

Tim has a long list of accomplishments, but he always summarized his life as having been built on three key events. These are his marriage to his wife, the birth of his son, and playing golf at Augusta National Golf Club. However, he always refused to say which one of these three was the most significant! Tim made a tremendous impact on his family. He was an example of hard work, doing the right thing, staying out of trouble (mostly), raising a family in the Church, and providing for those around him.

Tim is a 1961 graduate of Valley High School and attended Southern Union State Community College. Although he did not graduate from Southern Union, he liked to say that he was indeed an honor graduate of the “All World University - School of All Knowledge.” His career spanned across textile manufacturing for the West Point companies, as well as sales in packaging and chemicals. After his retirement, Tim spent many years as the “dog catcher” and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of West Point, Georgia.

Some of Tim’s happiest days were spent hunting with his son and nephews, golfing with his friends, and water skiing at the lake with his grandchildren. But the love of his life was his wife of almost 62 years, Delores, whom he adored.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Anna Wooley, and his brothers Ted (Lois) Wooley and Tinsley (Jennifer) Wooley. He is survived by his wife Delores Pouncey Wooley, his son Timothy Lane (Cherokee) Wooley, and grandchildren Timothy Ward Wooley, William McClellan Wooley, and Cherokee Anne Wooley. Tim also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Alane (Jim) Duncan, and two special nephews, Alan (Gayla) Arrington and Todd (Neida) Arrington, and their families.

A visitation will be held at Langdale Methodist Church in Valley, Alabama on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, starting at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time, with a funeral service following at Noon. A private burial will follow. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care Tim received from his church family at Langdale Methodist Church and from Chattahoochee Hospice.
