Tony James Powers

     Tony James Powers, age 72, of Valley, Alabama passed away on November 4th, 2025, in Opelika, Alabama. He was born on August 3rd, 1953, in Langdale, Alabama.

     Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Debra “Debbie” Powers; sons, Jeremy Powers (Karley) and Steven Powers (Jessica); grandchildren, Jordan, Ella, Maddox, Wallace, and Sarah Benton Powers; brother, Rindy Smallwood (Sharon).

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Jackie Smallwood; his father, Jessie Powers; and his brother, Gary “Dink” Smallwood.

     Tony was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawmut and Spring Road Christian Church. He worked with and served on the board of Valley Haven School for over three decades. He was a big sports fan who loved to pull for the Braves and the Falcons and also liked to play golf. He enjoyed cooking, especially grilling and cooking Christmas morning breakfast for his family.

     Funeral services for family and friends of Tony will be held on Friday, November 7th, 2025, at 2:30 PM (EST) at the graveside in Johnson Memorial Gardens. Pastor John Dye will officiate. Tony’s family will receive friends in the cemetery following the service.
