Troy Denson Templeton Obituary

We are gathered here today to celebrate the life and legacy of Troy Denson Templeton.  Born on April 28, 1939, in the heart of Chambers County, Alabama, he was a source of light and strength to his family and community until his peaceful passing on April 9, 2024, in Valley, Alabama.

His life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and hard work. He was a loving father to his son, Troy Scott Templeton and his wife Linda, a caring brother to Jerry Templeton, and a doting grandfather to Melanie Dickinson and her husband David, Amanda Templeton and her husband Zane Trillet, Kelly Templeton, Kim Templeton, Justin Bryan, and Phillip Bryan and his wife Emily. His legacy extends to his 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, which will carry on his spirit of adventure and love for the Lord. Troy's extended family at Sonny's will also remember him fondly.

He now joins his beloved wife, Betty Jean Templeton, his cherished daughter, Donna Jean Templeton, and his dear parents, Denson and Cordelia Gray Templeton, in eternal rest.

Troy's life was marked by service to his country and his community. He proudly served in the Army Reserves for 8 years, a period during which he honed the discipline and strength that would characterize his entire life. His early years were spent with a wrench in hand, working as a mechanic, and with the wind in his hair, driving trucks across the country. His dedication to service found its true calling when he became the minister of Langdale Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he shepherded his flock with wisdom and grace.

After a fulfilling career, Troy retired from the Opelika Pepperell Mill, where he had dedicated 25 years of diligent service.

Troy's interests were as vast as the open roads he loved to travel. He was an avid motorcyclist, taking to the Blue Ridge Parkway and beyond, even venturing into Canada and across the country on his two-wheeled steed. His passion for NASCAR was only rivaled by his love for University of Alabama football, a true Crimson Tide fan through and through. Above all, Troy loved the Lord with all his heart, and his faith was the cornerstone of his existence.

Described as faith-filled, intelligent, and adventurous, Troy lived his life with a zest that inspired all who knew him. He was a man who found joy in the journey, embracing every twist and turn with courage and an unwavering trust in his Savior. As the Good Book says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7). Troy indeed fought the good fight, finished his race, and kept the faith with an unshakable conviction.

Today, as we bid farewell to Troy Denson Templeton, let us not dwell on our loss but celebrate the rich, full life he lived. Let us honor his memory by living our lives with the same passion and purpose he demonstrated every day. Troy's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide us.

May we find comfort in knowing that Troy is now riding the heavenly highways, free from the burdens of this world, and resting in the arms of our Lord. Until we meet again, may we hold fast to the love and memories he left behind, for they are the treasures that will sustain us in the days to come. Rest in peace, Troy Denson Templeton, and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
