Mr. Walter Cecil Benefield, age 75, of LaFayette, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
Mr. Benefield was born on August 18, 1947 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Hoyt Leo Benefield and Martha Lena Barsh Benefield. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Hoyt Gay Benefield, Kassolyne Wilkerson and his granddaughter Cheyenne Carol Benefield.
Walter was an electrician by trade and worked for the Service Center and in the Shawmut Mill. He relocated to Texas around 1975. He went on to work for Brown & Root Industrial Company and Traffic Control Devices (TCO) where he retired from. After retirement, Walter and Carol relocated back to LaFayette, Alabama in 2012.
Walter enjoyed racing cars and working on them with his three sons. He was a “jack of all trades” and taught his sons everything that he knew.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, “Paw Paw”, Poppa, and a friend to all.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Carol Miller Benefield; sons, Jeff Benefield, LaFayette, Tracy (Sheila) Benefield, Alvin, TX, Greg Benefield, Evans, GA; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Joann (Dave) Hooper, Athens, GA, Janice (Fred) Kendrick, LaFayette, Tibethia (Jimmy) Smith, Sontag, MS; numerous extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 2:00P.M. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with interment following in Lafayette City Cemetery. The Reverend Jimmy T. Smith, Jr. officiating. His family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday from 1:00P.M. EST until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Walter's name to the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
