Wilma W. Thompson, age 92, of Valley, Alabama passed away on January 7th, 2025, in Auburn, Alabama.
Wilma Willingham Thompson was born October 14,1932 in Randolph County Al. She was the first child born to Byrd and Lillian Carter Willingham. The family moved to the Shawmut community of Valley, Al when Wilma was very young. She married Wayne Thompson on June 26,1948 and moved to Fairfax.
She was an active involved member of the Fairfax First Baptist Church, joining the congregation circa 1950. She served her church in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher for many years, chairman of personnel committee, president of the WMU, and member of the Doris Parkman Circle to name a few.
She was a charter member of the Sunset Garden Club of Fairfax, member of Professional Secretaries International-serving as President in 1979 and was SOTY (secretary of the year) in 1985. She was a supportive member of the Georgia-Alabama Hospital Auxiliary. Wilma was an executive secretary at West Point Manufacturing Company- Towel Operations (West Point Pepperell) for 35 years. She was the Assistant to the President of Blair Mills, LLP in Belton, SC for 2 years. She retired as Administrative Assistant at Auburn University after serving approximately 20 years, at age 83.
Wilma Thompson was a member of the Valley High School Class of 1950 and attended SUSCC and Auburn University. She was a perpetual student. She supported her husband and sons in all their activities, which were many, with great enthusiasm.
Wilma is survived by her son Dave Thompson, her brother Randy (Susan) Willingham, her grandchildren Cami (Terry) Rubke and Jill Thompson (Joseph Paone), her great-grand daughters Cali Grace and Addison Kate Rubke, along with niece Wendy (Phil) Goodwin and their sons, Jo Jo Johnson, Janna Johnson (David) Cole and their sons, Jayme Johnson (Scott) McKelvey and their sons, Tenon Thompson, Bruce (Martha) Reynolds and children, Cathy (Skip) McKay and children. Also surviving are cousins and a host of friends. Her husband for over 60 years, Wayne Thompson, preceded her in death as well as her son Van Thompson; also preceding her in death were her parents Byrd and Lillian Willingham, her mother and father in law Voncile and Ralph Thompson, brother and sister in law Hudson and Helen Thompson, and her nieces Gail Thompson and Sheila Johnson.
Funeral services for Wilma will be held on Friday, January 17th, 2025, at 2:00 PM (EST) at the graveside in Fairfax Cemetery. The Reverend Chuck Goodwin will officiate. Wilma’s family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1:30 PM (EST) until the service hour in the cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in her memory.
